Opinion: Mainers are sensible enough to want gun safety measures

Joline Godfrey

Over the years I've learned that clients who lean left and those who lean right share one value: they all aspire to raise financially fluent children. Helping families instill Ten Money Skills in their children is like helping them acquire the ABCs. Like learning to read, the acquisition of basic money skills empowers children.

My mission is to empower children, to nurture their resilience and well-being. This requires they have safe communities in which to grow up. Keeping children safe with sensible gun laws isn't a political act, it is the sensible behavior of grown-ups who keep communities healthy and children secure.

This letter to Governor Mills is meant to remind her of that. I hope you will join me, amplifying my voice, by sending your own note to the governor and asking your local representative to support the gun safety bills currently in front of the Maine legislature.  Safe communities are required for raising healthy children. They all deserve to grow up in communities that care about their well being.  Spring is a season to celebrate resilience. Happy Spring to you all!
